December is here, you've been waiting for this since the summer.
Your summer holiday didn't cut it.
The exhaustion.
The brain fog.
The constant and never ending to do list.
The mistakes you've started to make.
The balls you've started to drop.
It's all being noticed.
You've started conversations about getting a coach, because you're starting to feel like a failure, but oh the irony, you haven't had the time to confirm a coach, or the budget, and you definitely start a coaching relationship this side of Christmas.
You can't fit anything else in this side of Christmas.
You can't slow down.
You can't stop.
You can't switch off.
You're counting down the days.
It's all going to be better after Christmas.
The new year is going to be different.
You're going to make some changes. Or you say you will.
But the reality really is that you're just hoping that the change will come from other people. Because the thought of change, of making change, of creating change, it's just too exhausting.
When everyone else gets their shit together, it will be better for you.
Yep - that's what needs to happen. It's on them.
You knew it this time last year, you could see what they all needed to change, so when they do, it's all going to be ok.
You'll have more time.
You'll have more energy.
You'll have more space.
You'll be able to think properly again.
You'll get on top of stuff. I mean how great will everything be when they all stop dumping things on you last minute, and changing their priorities.
They'll take a break. They'll refocus. It will all be ok in January.
Was it just last year you thought this? Maybe it was the year before. And the year before that.
It's on them though right. You're exhausted because of them.
And you know that everyone keeps talking about Burnout, but that will never happen to you. Because when they all get their shit together you'll be fine.
Counting down the days.
Christmas is going to be great.
And you'll definitely have found some Christmas cheer by then. Although the Christmas party was a complete disaster - you were all too exhausted to really enjoy it. There was FAR too much drinking, a few arguments, and you can't remember the end of the night.
Next year's will be better.
You'll all be ale to enjoy it more next year.
It's just this year that's been tough.
Well, in reality it's been a tough few years.
In fact, if you think about it, it's been a bit of a shit show since 2019. But then COVID, and that was tough on everyone - so YOU can't complain. You actually had it easier then most. So you can't complain.
The fact you're in a job is a huge blessing.
So many people have been struggling over the last few years.
They're the ones who are really exhausted.
They're the ones who are really struggling.
You can't complain.
You've just got to make it through to Christmas.
Less than a month to go and it's all going to be ok.
It's all going to be ok.
It's January 2025.
You're exhausted.
But everyone is this time of year right?
It's the weather. The after Christmas blues.
The dark nights.
You didn't really get to switch off over the break because of all the things you had to do, all the things you needed to get done. You couldn't wait to get the decs down, and Christmas put away. You've got work to do. This will be your year.
It's all going to be better this year.
January is SUCH a looooooooong month isn't it! Those resolutions, actually, who are you kidding. You didn't even have the energy to make any resolutions.
It's February.
Spring is just around the corner.
When the clocks change it's all going to be ok.
With the new season, you'll find your energy again.
This is going to be your year.
Do you need me to go on? You've been here before haven't you? For how many years? Chances are you're stuck in this habitual Burnout cycle. This has become your new normal, and it's exhausting. But you carry on, and you don't really know why (although there is actual neuroscience behind it), but you also can't make the change.
You don't have it in you to make the change.
You'll carry on, maybe for years, just like this. Or you'll push harder into deeper and deeper exhaustion and stress and always being on, and Burnout will find you and you'll crash.
Here's the wake up call - NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNLESS YOU DO.
But sure.
Keep pushing through.
You know best right!
If you want to beat Burnout in 2025, start now, by answering:
Just because you can carry on like this, it doesn't mean you should. Burnout is preventable, but it needs to start with you!
